This generation shows many things to older generation if we are talking about – technology, information, gadgets, fitness freak. We see these days’ older generation is inspiring themselves to stay fit and healthy after 40. Get in shape never get old and reap the health benefits of physical fitness.

In fact, increase in physical activity later in life results in the same risk reduction of cancer, cardiovascular disease, and all-cause mortality because of being active from adolescence through adulthood.

In this article, we will share some tips to stay fit and healthy after 40s.

Starting fitness routine at or after 40, there are some key factors to consider:

  1. Try basic exercise

If you don’t know where to begin when it comes to working out, why not go back to basics? Instead of complicating your routine, keep things simple. Grab a jump rope for a cardio session, use light dumbbells to tone your arms, and stick to foundational toning exercises, like squats, push-ups, pull- ups and sit ups.

  1. Don’t look for a quick fix

Don’t invest your hard-earned money into an exercise machine you spotted on a latenight infomercials that promises to have you looking toned in days or a supplement that can help you lose weight instantly. Take a second to think about it.

  1. Change it up

You are vulnerable to injuries, not to mention boredom, when you do the same thing every day. Change in the body as you age makes you prone to injuries. More than ever, cross-training is your friend (runner, bicycle, meet swimming pool) that goes for strength training too. You are going to make progress only steadily jacking up the amount of weight you lift.

  1. Don’t underestimate yourself

If you are a newbie, don’t think you can’t make giant leaps in your fitness, plenty of age group champions in running, for example, never laced up a pair of shoes until their 40th birthday was well in the rearview mirror.

  1. Don’t obsess over weight

Many people start exercise habit thinking only of the potential for weight loss. When progress on that front is slow ornonexistent there are 3,500 calories in a pound of fat and 30 minutes of walking briskly may burn off only 20.So, you can do the Maths.

  1. Keep a positive attitude

It’s easy to get discouraged while trying to get fit in your 40s – especially, if you haven’t been successful with the mission in the past. But the only way will find success this time around is by staying positive.
